Toadvance the development of international Chinese language educationand strengthen students’ cross-cultural teaching skills, XuMengting and Lin Zhiling—two students from the 2024 cohort of theInternational Chinese Language Education program in the School ofSociologyand Humanities—have embarked on a four-month Chinese teachinginternship at Universitas Bunda Mulia in Indonesia.Thisoverseas internship program represents a successful initiative byJUFEto advance the development of its International Chinese LanguageEducation program and cultivate talent with global competence. As oneof Indonesia’s top 50 universities, UniversitasCipta Mandirihas an internationally recognized quality management system andoffers an excellent learning environment and a diverse culturalatmosphere.
Duringtheir internship, students Xu Mengting and Lin Zhiling immersedthemselves in the International Chinese Education program atUniversitasCipta Mandiri,where they taught listening and speaking, reading, writing, andcultural courses. They participated in and organized campus culturalactivities, applying the professional theoretical knowledge they hadacquired in China to their overseas practice. They explored teachingmethods tailored to Indonesian students while showcasing the uniquecharm of Chinese culture to Indonesian faculty and students throughcultural activities such as face painting, calligraphy, andtraditional festivals.

Forexample, when the winter solstice arrived, Bunda Mulia Universityheld a cultural event themed “Welcomingthe Winter Solstice Making Tangyuan.”The two students were invited to explain China’swinter solstice traditions to Indonesian students and, together withthe Culinary Arts Department of Bunda Mulia University, led anengaging tangyuan-making activity. The Indonesian students not onlydiligently learned the traditional techniques of making tangyuan butalso infused the process with their own creativity and imagination.
Duringthis enriching overseas internship, the two students gained valuableinsights into the role of international Chinese language teachers.They not only sharpened their teaching skillsbutalsostrengthened their cross-cultural communication abilities, laying asolid foundation for their future studies, life, and career.
