On October 30, the second round of the first Jiangxi Provincial Social Work and Volunteer Service Competition was held in JUFE. Co-organized by the Social Work Department of the CPC Jiangxi Provincial Committee and hosted by JUFE, the event was attended by Fan Sheng, Vice Director of the Social Work Department of the CPC Jiangxi Provincial Committee, and He Danjun, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of JUFE. Nearly a thousand participants and staff from municipal and county social work departments took part.
Since its launch in August, the competition has attracted active participation from 11 prefecture-level cities, 18 provincial departments, and 17 universities across the province. More than 240 projects competed in fields such as community governance, elderly and child care, support for people with disabilities and those in poverty, youth services, emergency rescue, psychological counseling, and public health, showcasing the vibrancy of Jiangxi’s social work and volunteer sector. After intense competition, 65 projects advanced to the semifinals, scheduled for mid-November.

As the host, JUFE School of Sociology and Humanities attached great importance to the event, making thorough preparations to ensure its success. The school’s social work program has actively responded to national calls to strengthen grassroots social governance and advance professional social work, contributing to high-quality development in the field. A total of 120 graduate and undergraduate volunteers from social work, journalism, and communication programs were mobilized to assist with conference reception, media outreach, crowd management, and on-site documentation. Their professionalism and sense of responsibility were evident throughout the event.

At the second round, competing teams presented their project designs and social impacts through multimedia displays, case narratives, and Q&A sessions. Expert judges provided in-depth feedback, focusing on project value, innovation, and implementation outcomes. The lively event attracted over a thousand spectators. An observation and interaction zone also provided a platform for mutual learning and exchange, fostering further innovation and experience-sharing in social work and volunteer services.
The successful hosting of this competition highlights the leading role of School of Sociology and Humanities in social work education and social services. It also provided young students with an immersive, practical learning experience. Guided by the social work principle of “helping others to help themselves” and the volunteer spirit of “dedication, friendship, mutual aid, and progress,” both faculty and students demonstrated the mission and responsibility of social workers in the new era.
Looking ahead, School of Sociology and Humanities will continue to leverage its academic strengths and deepen collaboration with the government. It will further integrate social work education with volunteer practice, contributing more “JUFE Strength” to the innovation and advancement of social work in Jiangxi and across the country.
