The School of Society and Humanities of Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics invited Professor Huang Guangwei to give a lecture on the theme of “Public Participation in Wetland Restoration and Conservation” on October 25th, 2024 at 7pm. Professor Huang Guangwei used to be an associate professor at the University of Tokyo, the University of Kanazawa and the University of Niigata, and Professor and Director of the Institute of Geo-Environmental Studies at Sophia University. He is a professor of the Joint Educational Programme of the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies of Japan and the UNESCO Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management. Professor Huang Guangwei's main research area is environmental science and management. The lecture was moderated by Hong Lumin, who is the head of the Department of Sociology. Mr Jiang Guohe, the Dean of the School of Society and Humanities, and Ms Zhou Meifang, the Lecturer of the Department of Sociology, attended the lecture with roughly 150 students from the Faculty.
Before the start of the lecture, Associate Professor Hong Lumin briefly introduced Professor Huang Guangwei to the attending students and teachers. Afterwards, Professor Jiang Guohe and Professor Huang Guangwei signed an agreement on academic co-operation programme. Professor Jiang Guohe encouraged students to actively participate in international exchange programme.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Huang Guangwei first explained the definition of wetland and the importance of protecting wetland. He believed that wetlands have the functions of improving water quality and providing water resources. Then, he elaborated on the new developments in wetland conservation measures in recent years. The new developments include the Wetland City Accreditation and voluntary conservation activities organized by groups. Finally, Professor Huang analyzed the change in the view of nature and suggested that environmentalists should take up the responsibility of promoting public participation and resource recycling.
Going into the end of the lecture, Professor Huang Guangwei patiently answered the students' questions. This lecture is a great inspiration in terms of ecological environment protection. The students expressed their gratitude to Professor Huang Guangwei. The lecture was successfully concluded in a warm atmosphere.
